Burnout had crept into my life silently, like an univited guest. I was handling everything work, personal responsibilities, social commitments- with ease and the next, I felt like I was drowning in an endless ses of stress. I lost touch with myself and the world around me. I needed a lifine, something to pull me back to shore.
That's when my good friend jio me for forest bathing.
The First Steps
Walking into the forest, I felt a sense of calm wash over me. The towering trees, the soft rustling of leaves and the chirping of birds created a symphony of peace. We were to touch the bark of trees, listen to the wind and observe the intricate patterns of nature.
As I followed the simple invitations, I felt a shift within me. The constant chatter in my mind began to quiet. I started noticing the vibrant greens of foliage, the earthy scent of the soil and the delicate dance of sunlight through the leaves. For the first time in a long while, I felt present.
Reconnecting with myself
Forest Bathing became a regular practice for me. Each session was a journey of rediscovery. I learnt to let go of the incessant need to be productive and instead embraced the joy of simply being. The forest taught me patience and mindfulness. It reminded me to breathe, listen and observe without judgment.
In the silence of woods, I found my inner voice. The disconnection I had felt from myself began to heal. I started journaling my thoughts and emotions, which helped me process my experiences and understand myself better.
Healing through Nature
Nature has incredible ability to heal. Studies have shown that spending time in Nature can reduce stress, lower blood pressure and improve overall well-being. For me the forest/park/community garden became a sanctuary- a place where I could retreat, recharge and reconnect (Back to my roots)
A New Perspective
Forest Bathing didn't just help me to overcome burnout; it gave a new perspective on life. I began to to appreciate the simple joys - the warmth of the sun, the sound of rain tapping against the leaves, the beauty of blooming flower, star gazing with my friends on a sun deck. I learnt that self-care isn't a luxury but a necessity.
This journey also fostered a deeper connection with the world around me. I became more aware of the environment and committed to living sustainably. The forest taught me the importance of nurturing not just myself but also the planet.
Embracing the Journey
If you are struggling with burnout or feeling disconnected from yourself, I invite you to give forest bathing a try. Gift yourself permission to slow down, to breathe and to immerse in the healing embrace of nature.
The forest is my therapist and through it's quiet wisdom, I found my way back to myself.
